Uber Expands Services: Introducing 2-Wheelers and 3-Wheelers to Delhi-NCR and Mumbai!

Uber has taken a significant leap in its logistics services with the introduction of Courier XL in the bustling regions of Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. This innovative service allows users to send larger goods weighing up to 750 kg using both three- and four-wheeled vehicles, marking an expansion from its initial pilot in Bengaluru. The company aims to extend this offering to more major cities, enhancing its delivery capabilities across India.

Expanding Delivery Options with Courier XL

The launch of Courier XL builds upon Uber’s successful two-wheeler courier service, which has witnessed impressive growth. Previously, this service only permitted deliveries of packages weighing less than 5 kg. With the new Courier XL, customers can now send packages weighing up to 500 kg via three-wheelers, such as the Bajaj Maxima.

For heavier parcels, between 500 kg and 750 kg, deliveries will be facilitated by four-wheeled vehicles like the Tata Ace. It’s important to note that these delivery options are currently limited to intra-city services.

Growing Demand for Standard Courier Services

Uber’s standard courier offerings have expanded to 25 cities across India, catering to over 5 million customers since its inception. According to company statistics, there was a remarkable 50% increase in standard courier deliveries year-on-year in 2024, with this upward trend continuing into the first quarter of 2025. Notably, the average distance for these deliveries was approximately 11 km nationwide, with Delhi NCR and Mumbai standing out at 14 km and 12 km, respectively.

Competing in the Intra-City Logistics Market

By venturing into the logistics domain with three- and four-wheelers, Uber is now in direct competition with existing players like Porter in the intra-city logistics market. This move also coincides with Swiggy’s recent decision to discontinue its Genie services, which allowed customers to purchase items from stores and have them delivered. Interestingly, Uber previously introduced a Shop pick-up feature using two-wheelers, which has since been phased out without a restart of the pick-up and pay service.

Features Tailored for Small Businesses and Households

Courier XL retains all the essential features of Uber’s standard courier service, such as live tracking, upfront pricing, and on-demand booking through the Uber app. This service appears to be primarily aimed at small businesses and households that require transportation for larger items like furniture, inventory, or bulky parcels within city limits.

In conclusion, Uber’s Courier XL not only enhances its logistics offerings but also addresses the growing demand for efficient delivery solutions in urban areas. As the company continues to expand its service footprint, it remains committed to providing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of its diverse customer base.
