Stock Market Closure Today: BSE and NSE Halt Trading for Holi Celebration!

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are set to observe a holiday on March 14 in celebration of Holi. This means that no trading will occur across various segments, including equities, derivatives, and currency derivatives.

Trading Hours for Commodity Derivatives

While the commodity derivatives market will be closed during the morning hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, it will reopen in the evening from 5:00 PM to 11:55 PM.

Regular trading is expected to resume on both exchanges on Monday, March 17.

Market Performance Recap

On March 13, the benchmark indices experienced a downturn after a turbulent trading day. The Nifty index fell below the 22,400 threshold, despite positive reports on industrial production and retail inflation. Overall, the indices wrapped up the week nearly 1% lower.

  • Sensex: Decreased by 200.85 points (0.27%), closing at 73,828.91
  • Nifty: Dropped by 73.30 points (0.33%), settling at 22,397.20
  • Midcap and Smallcap indices: Both fell by 0.7%

Sector-wise, a variety of industries saw declines, including auto, IT, metal, media, and real estate, which dropped between 0.5% and 1%. In contrast, the PSU Bank index managed a slight increase of 0.5%. Additionally, the Indian rupee strengthened by 21 paise, closing at 87 per dollar on Thursday.
