Stock Market Alert: NSE Open Only 5 Days in the Next 12 – Find Out If It’s Closed Today!

In a significant pause for the Indian stock market, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed today, April 10, 2025, in observance of Mahavir Jayanti. This temporary halt means that investors won’t be able to buy or sell shares across various trading segments, including equity, equity derivatives, and currency derivatives.

Market Closure Details

The closure of the Indian stock exchanges comes after a week of heightened volatility, driven by global economic uncertainties. Concerns regarding a potential recession linked to U.S. tariffs and recent monetary policy announcements from the Reserve Bank of India have contributed to a cautious trading environment.

Upcoming Market Holidays

According to the official stock market holiday calendar for 2025, April will feature three notable holidays:

  • April 10 (Thursday) – Mahavir Jayanti
  • April 14 (Monday) – Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti
  • April 18 (Friday) – Good Friday

Interestingly, the NSE will be operational for only 5 days out of the next 12, factoring in the upcoming holidays and the regular weekend closures.

Commodity Market Activity

While the equity segments are at a standstill today, traders in the Commodity Derivatives Segment on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) can still engage in trading activities. The morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM is closed, but the evening session will resume from 5:00 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM. This provides an opportunity for commodities traders to remain active despite the broader market closure.

Market Performance Before the Break

Leading up to this holiday, market performance has been shaky. On April 9, both major indices faced declines after an initial rally. The Sensex dropped by 379.93 points, closing at 73,847.15, while the Nifty 50 saw a decrease of 136.70 points, settling at 22,399.15.
