According to insights shared by Moneycontrol, discussions between Ashok Leyland and SML Isuzu are reportedly advancing rapidly. Sources suggest that the companies are nearing a comprehensive takeover agreement, heightening investor anticipation.

  • Mahindra & Mahindra’s Interest: Earlier this week, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) also stirred the market with speculation regarding the acquisition of the promoter stake in SML Isuzu.
  • Stake Breakdown: The stake held by Sumitomo, SML Isuzu’s promoter, stands at 44%, while Isuzu retains 15% ownership in the Indian unit.

Remarkable Share Price Movements

The share price of SML Isuzu has soared by an impressive 28% over the past five days and has seen remarkable gains of over 50% in the last month alone. In 2025, the stock has experienced a steady growth rate of around 10% thus far.

  • Electric Bus Launch: SML Isuzu is gearing up to enter the electric vehicle arena with its new Hiroi.ev platform, aiming to launch electric buses between the first quarter of FY25 and Q1 FY26.

On the other hand, Ashok Leyland’s stock has faced some challenges, experiencing a 6% decline in 2025, along with a 7% drop in the past month. Recent sales reports from February indicate a year-over-year sales decrease of 4%, with Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declining by 7%. Notably, truck sales fell by 3%, while bus sales plummeted by 23%.
