On Saturday, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) unveiled an ambitious plan to acquire a 58.96% stake in SML Isuzu for a remarkable ₹555 crore. This strategic move is designed to enhance M&M’s presence in the commercial vehicle market, a sector ripe for growth.
Strategic Acquisition Details
In this significant transaction, M&M will acquire 43.96% of shares from the promoter, Sumitomo Corporation, along with an additional 15% stake owned by Isuzu Motors Ltd, a public shareholder. Furthermore, M&M plans to initiate an open offer for an additional 26% stake, adhering to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) takeover regulations.

He highlighted that SML Isuzu brings a dedicated customer base, a rich legacy, and a product lineup that complements M&M’s existing offerings. Approval and Future Outlook
Founded in 1983, SML Isuzu has built a strong reputation in the Indian truck and bus markets over the years. The acquisition is pending approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI), with expectations for completion by 2025.
