L&T Appoints Subramanian Sarma as Deputy Managing Director: A Strategic Move for Growth

Engineering and construction powerhouse Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a significant leadership change, promoting Subramanian Sarma to the position of Deputy Managing Director and President. This move recognizes Sarma’s pivotal role in steering the company’s energy division, which has shown remarkable growth and innovation under his guidance. The promotion will officially take effect on April 2, 2025, and his term is set to extend until February 3, 2028, pending shareholder approval at the next annual general meeting.

Elevating Leadership at L&T

Subramanian Sarma has been a part of L&T’s board since August 2015. His extensive experience and successful track record have made him a key figure in the company. Under his leadership, L&T’s energy sector has not only contributed approximately 13.5% to the company’s revenues in FY24 but has also accounted for nearly 25% of its order book during the same period.

SN Subrahmanyan, the Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, expressed confidence in Sarma’s capabilities, stating, “His elevation is well deserved, and I am confident that his leadership will further strengthen L&T’s growth trajectory.” This endorsement highlights the trust placed in Sarma’s strategic vision and his ability to drive the company forward.

Sarma, a graduate in Chemical Engineering, furthered his education with a master’s degree from IIT Mumbai. With over 40 years of experience, including 30 years in the Middle East, he has built a robust career in the engineering and construction industry. Before joining L&T, Sarma served as the managing director of a significant EPC company.
