After months of intense negotiations, brothers Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha have reached a peaceful resolution regarding their dispute over the use of the Lodha brand name. This amicable settlement allows Abhishek’s company, Macrotech Developers (MDL), to continue utilizing the Lodha branding, while Abhinandan will operate his business under the name House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).
Settlement Details
In an official joint statement, the brothers clarified that MDL and HoABL are now completely independent entities. They emphasized that there will be no affiliation between the two businesses. “Both entities will communicate this widely,” the statement noted, ensuring that their separate identities are clear to the public.
- No claims on each other’s businesses: Abhinandan has no rights or interests in Macrotech Developers or any of Abhishek’s ventures, just as Abhishek holds no claims on HoABL or Abhinandan’s operations.
Legal Background
Earlier this year, MDL initiated legal proceedings against HoABL in the Bombay High Court, alleging trademark infringement and seeking damages amounting to Rs 5,000 crore. The court subsequently directed the parties to mediation, appointing retired Justice R V Raveendran as arbitrator to facilitate discussions.
HoABL denied the infringement allegations, arguing that any mentions of the Lodha brand were made by third-party brokers and not by the company itself. They also asserted compliance with a previous family settlement established in 2017.
Recent Developments
In a twist, Macrotech accused HoABL of producing forged board resolutions concerning the use of its trademarks, which were filed with government agencies. Following this, HoABL lodged a police complaint to investigate these claims, aiming to protect its reputation.
Business Performance
Macrotech Developers focuses on residential and commercial real estate primarily in Mumbai and Pune. For the fourth quarter of FY25, the company reported a remarkable Rs 4,810 crore in bookings, reflecting a 14% year-over-year growth. Overall, in FY25, their total bookings reached Rs 17,630 crore, surpassing their target of Rs 17,500 crore.
Conversely, HoABL is forecasting sales of around Rs 2,200 crore for FY25 and aims for Rs 3,000 crore in FY26, according to Abhinandan Lodha.
Acknowledgments
In their joint statement, both brothers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to retired Justice R V Raveendran for his invaluable guidance during the mediation. They also thanked Justice Arif Doctor for encouraging their participation in the mediation process, along with all family elders and supporters who offered their counsel throughout this challenging time.
This resolution marks a significant step towards reconciliation for the Lodha brothers, allowing them to move forward independently in their respective business ventures.
