IT Firms Recommend Remote Work as India-Pakistan Tensions Rise and Travel Restrictions Implemented

In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, prominent IT and consulting firms in India have taken proactive measures to ensure employee safety. Major companies such as HCLTech, Deloitte, EY, Tech Mahindra, and KPMG have issued advisories recommending that employees in high-alert regions work from home and avoid any non-essential travel. This decision comes amid heightened security concerns, particularly affecting the Delhi-NCR region and northern states.

Work-from-Home Advisory for Sensitive Areas

The work-from-home directive primarily targets staff based in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Chandigarh, and other areas deemed high-risk. Sources indicate that Deloitte India has urged employees to postpone all non-essential domestic and international travel. A dedicated hotline has also been established to provide support for staff navigating these challenging times.

    • Chandigarh

A source familiar with the situation mentioned, "Employees stationed in border states should return to their home locations promptly," stressing the importance of adhering to government safety protocols.

HCLTech and Tech Mahindra’s Precautionary Actions

HCLTech, one of India’s largest IT service providers, announced May 9 as a work-from-home day across its offices in Chandigarh, Gurugram, and Noida. An employee disclosed this information to Moneycontrol, highlighting the company’s commitment to employee safety.

On the other hand, Tech Mahindra initiated precautionary measures on May 7, emphasizing the need for calm among employees. The firm has halted non-essential travel and advised staff to refrain from discussing the current political climate on social media or during client meetings.

EY and KPMG Adapt to Current Conditions

EY India has implemented a work-from-home policy for teams in Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad, while allowing flexible arrangements in other locations for May 9.

Meanwhile, KPMG has provided its staff in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Jaipur with the option to work from home, the office, or client sites based on their discussions with managers. A spokesperson reassured, "Our offices will remain operational to support critical business activities."

Heightened Security Measures Across Regions

In related news, recent explosions in Jammu have caused emergency alerts and citywide power outages. Security agencies are intensifying surveillance as the situation remains tense following attempted drone and missile attacks on military targets in Jammu and Pathankot.

States like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Bihar are taking additional precautions, including school closures, power blackouts in border districts, and canceling leave for police and administrative personnel to enhance readiness.

The evolving situation is under close watch by both corporate entities and security agencies, reflecting the gravity of current events in the region.
