India’s Organic Product Exports Surge 34.6% in 2024-25, Reaching $665.96 Million!

India’s organic product exports have witnessed a remarkable surge, soaring by 34.6% in the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching an impressive USD 665.96 million compared to USD 494.8 million in the previous year. This growth can be attributed to the rising demand for organic goods like pulses, essential oils, and fresh fruits and vegetables in developed markets. According to data from the commerce ministry, the volume of these shipments also experienced an increase, exceeding 368,155 tonnes, reflecting a 4% rise.

Rising Global Demand for Indian Organic Products

The significant uptick in exports highlights a growing international appetite for Indian organic offerings. An official noted, “This upward trend underscores the increasing global demand for our organic products.”

  • Organic pulses exports surged from USD 5.25 million in 2023-24 to USD 17.89 million in 2024-25.
  • Essential oils saw a jump from USD 4.52 million to USD 12.35 million during the same period.
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables exports rose from USD 4.52 million to USD 9.2 million.

Strengthening Support for Farmers

In a bid to enhance export capabilities and support farmers, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has updated the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) regulations. These changes aim to create a more farmer-friendly environment and help India achieve its ambitious target of USD 2 billion in organic food exports by 2030.

NPOP sets the standards for organic production and outlines the accreditation processes for certification bodies. It is designed to align with international standards governing the import and export of organic products, ensuring that Indian organic goods meet global requirements.

The Importance of NPOP

The NPOP stands as India’s primary regulatory framework for organic products, recognized by importing nations and playing a crucial role in expanding market access for Indian organic goods. By adhering to these standards, Indian exporters can better navigate the complexities of international trade, enhancing their competitiveness in the global marketplace.

In conclusion, the growth of India’s organic exports not only signifies a prosperous future for the industry but also reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and improved farmer livelihoods.
