Adani Ports Stock Soars 5% as Group Officials Fight to Dismiss Charges Against Gautam Adani

In recent weeks, discussions surrounding the Adani Group have gained significant traction, suggesting that a resolution may be on the horizon. These negotiations, which commenced earlier this year, could lead to fruitful outcomes in the upcoming months if the current momentum continues.

Adani Group Stocks Surge Amid Positive Developments

The stock market reacted positively to the news, with Adani Total Gas witnessing a remarkable 8.6% increase, reaching Rs 657.45 on the National Stock Exchange. Similarly, Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the group, saw its shares rise by 6%, reaching Rs 2,431.90. This upward trend reflects investor optimism regarding the company’s prospects.

Background of Allegations Against Adani Group

The ongoing scrutiny stems from allegations that Adani Green Energy engaged in bribery to secure favorable solar energy contracts from Indian officials. In November 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) indicted Gautam Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani, accusing them of misleading American investors during fundraising efforts.

  • December 2024: Adani decided against pursuing a $500 million loan from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation for a port terminal project in Colombo due to the allegations.
  • February 2025: The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sought assistance from India’s Ministry of Law & Justice to deliver legal notices to both Adani leaders.

Adani Ports and SEZ Q4 Financial Performance

Despite the challenges, the company has reported impressive financial results. In its Q4 FY25 earnings, Adani Ports and SEZ announced a 48% year-on-year increase in net profit, hitting Rs 3,014 crore, up from Rs 2,040 crore during the same quarter last year. The total income surged to Rs 8,769.63 crore, compared to Rs 7,199.94 crore in the previous year.

  • Revenue from operations also showed significant growth, climbing 23% to Rs 8,488 crore in Q4 FY25, compared to Rs 6,897 crore in the prior year.
