Adani Energy Solutions Expands Footprint with Strategic Acquisition of Mahan Transmission

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has taken a significant step forward by acquiring Mahan Transmission Limited (MTL), a special purpose vehicle focused on power transmission. This strategic move, executed through a share purchase agreement with REC Power Development and Consultancy on March 26, allows AESL to secure a 100% stake in MTL, enhancing its operations in the energy sector.

Major Investment in Power Transmission

The acquisition involves a Rs 2,200 crore intra-state transmission project aimed at facilitating the evacuation of 1,230 MW of power from Adani Power’s upcoming 1,600 MW expansion units located in Mahan, situated in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. This project is set to bolster AESL’s capabilities significantly.

Expanding Transmission Network

As part of this initiative, AESL plans to establish:

  • 2,800 Mega Volt-Amperes (MVA) of substation capacity
  • 740 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines

These developments will increase AESL’s overall transmission network to an impressive 26,668 ckm and a transformation capacity of 89,986 MVA. The project is projected for completion by April 2027, marking a substantial addition to AESL’s infrastructure.

Strategic Growth and Future Prospects

AESL emphasized that this acquisition aligns with its strategy to enhance shareholder value through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. This move is part of AESL’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the energy sector.

Additionally, AESL secured this project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, with REC Power Development and Consultancy overseeing the bid. This marks the seventh project win for AESL in the current fiscal year, bringing its total transmission order book to Rs 59,761 crore.
