NHPC Shares Surge 2% as Company Strategizes to Raise ₹6300 Crore by FY26

On Thursday, March 20, NHPC shares experienced a notable uptick during morning trading, largely driven by its ambitious fundraising initiatives. Opening at ₹81.62 on the BSE, the stock quickly climbed over 1% from the previous day’s close of ₹80.19. As trading progressed, NHPC shares peaked at an intraday high of ₹81.69, reflecting an impressive gain of nearly 2%.

NHPC’s Recent Performance

Despite facing some declines earlier in the year, NHPC has shown resilience in recent sessions, coinciding with a broader recovery in the Indian stock market. The stock has rebounded significantly from its 52-week low of ₹71.01 reached in mid-February, marking a remarkable rise of about 15%.

Fundraising Plans for FY 2025-26

In a strategic move, NHPC has unveiled plans to raise up to ₹6,300 crore in debt during the fiscal year 2025-26. This announcement followed a meeting of the Board of Directors on March 19, 2025, where the board approved this significant borrowing plan.

The financing could be structured through various means, including:

  • Secured/Unsecured Corporate Bonds: Redeemable and non-cumulative.
  • Term Loans: External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) may also be considered.
  • Private Placement: Bonds can be issued in multiple tranches.

Potential Stake Acquisition in PTC India Ltd.

Meanwhile, NHPC’s share price remains under scrutiny as it explores the possibility of acquiring a co-promoter stake in PTC India Ltd. On February 21, NHPC clarified that this proposal is still in the early stages of evaluation. They emphasized that any significant developments will be communicated to the Stock Exchanges as they arise.
