India Aims for Single-Digit Logistics Costs to Compete with China and the US, Says Nitin Gadkari

In a significant move to bolster its competitive edge on the global stage, India aims to slash logistics costs from 14-16% down to single digits. This ambitious goal was underscored by Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, during the 32nd Convergence India & 10th Smart Cities India Expo. The expo showcases innovative technologies that could transform urban landscapes and enhance economic efficiency, positioning India to rival economic giants such as China and the United States.

Innovations at the Expo

This year’s expo is a hub of cutting-edge advancements, featuring a diverse array of technologies including:

  • 5G and 6G networks
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Big Data analytics
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Cybersecurity measures
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR)
  • Embedded technologies
  • Financial technology (Fintech)

Chandrika Behl, Managing Director of Exhibitions India Group, expressed her excitement about the event’s potential, stating, “We strive to create an engaging atmosphere for both participants and visitors, encouraging them to delve into the immersive world of technology.” This sentiment reflects the expo’s goal of expanding horizons and sparking innovative ideas.

One of the standout features of this event is the AI Bharat Expo, which focuses on the transformative power of AI in various sectors, particularly in industrial and retail applications. Throughout the three-day expo, attendees can participate in around 40 conference sessions where influential policymakers, industry experts, and innovators will discuss the latest trends that are driving India’s digital transformation and urban development.

During one of the sessions, Sanket Bhondve, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and IT, highlighted India’s extensive energy data capabilities. He remarked, “India possesses one of the largest energy data sets globally, monitoring 300,000 km of transmission lines and 400,000 MW of generation capacity, which provides exceptional insights for enhancing grid efficiency and promoting data-driven decision-making.”
