Boost Retail Sales: How Zebra Technologies’ AI Tools Accelerate Upselling Success

Retailers in India are increasingly embracing artificial intelligence and real-time data tools to enhance inventory management, drive sales, and meet the expectations of modern consumers. Thiruppathi Subramaniam, the Senior Regional Sales Manager for India and the Subcontinent at Zebra Technologies, shared insights into this transformative trend, highlighting how technology is reshaping the retail landscape.

Enhancing Shelf Management with AI

In bustling supermarkets, it’s not uncommon to find shelves missing popular items due to high customer traffic. However, with advanced camera systems monitoring inventory, retailers can now automate shelf fulfillment and reorder stock from the backroom seamlessly. "This innovation allows us to upsell effectively and ensure customers find what they need without hassle," Subramaniam explained.

Rising Demand for Real-Time Solutions

Zebra Technologies, a U.S.-based leader in automation and data visibility, is witnessing a surge in demand from Indian retailers seeking to enhance efficiency throughout their operations, from shelves to warehouses. Retail staff are now equipped with mobile devices that streamline their tasks, allowing them to check stock levels, locate items, and communicate with supervisors—all from a single tool. "Our devices empower employees to operate more efficiently, enhancing customer service," Subramaniam noted.

India: A Key Market for Retail Innovation

As one of Zebra’s most strategic markets, India is experiencing rapid growth in the retail sector, characterized by the blending of traditional stores, e-commerce, and quick commerce solutions. "India stands out as the fastest-growing market in the Asia-Pacific region, presenting significant growth opportunities," Subramaniam remarked. The rise of quick commerce, where deliveries occur in under 10 minutes, necessitates advanced visibility and data tools—an area where Zebra is heavily investing.

Investment in Cutting-Edge Technology

Retailers are increasingly investing in innovative technologies to enhance their operational capabilities. "We see a growing interest in handheld devices, wearables, RFID technology, electronic shelf labels, and fixed industrial scanners," Subramaniam shared, noting that these solutions are already being implemented by some of India’s leading retailers.

AI Streamlining Internal Operations

Artificial intelligence is not just revolutionizing retail operations; it’s also optimizing Zebra’s internal processes. While cost-cutting is not the primary focus, Subramaniam emphasized that AI enhances productivity and efficiency. "It’s about real-time responsiveness and operational excellence," he said, adding that Zebra’s AI tools are designed to support frontline workers through wearable devices and voice-picking technology.

Strengthening R&D in India

Zebra’s commitment to innovation is evident in its expanded R&D center in Bangalore, which now accommodates over 1,400 engineers. Subramaniam highlighted the vital role of Indian engineers in the design and development of Zebra’s products. "Our Bangalore team is crucial to our global product innovation process," he stated, showcasing the company’s dedication to leveraging local talent.

Exploring New Markets Beyond Metros

Looking towards the future, Zebra sees immense potential in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India, which are witnessing rapid growth in retail and manufacturing investments. "These regions are no longer just supplementary to metropolitan areas; they are central to our growth strategy," Subramaniam concluded, highlighting the shift in focus towards these emerging markets.

In conclusion, the integration of AI and real-time data tools is not just a trend but a necessary evolution in the Indian retail sector, ensuring that businesses can meet the dynamic needs of consumers while staying competitive in a rapidly changing landscape.
