Top 5 Breakout Stocks to Buy or Sell Today: Expert Insights from Sumeet Bagadia (April 21, 2025)

The Indian stock market is experiencing a significant surge, with the Nifty 50 index climbing 1.8% to close at 23,851.65 and the BSE Sensex soaring 1.96% to finish at 78,553.2. This upward momentum comes just ahead of the Good Friday holiday, marking a notable 4.5% gain for the week, outperforming many of its Asian counterparts. Concerns over U.S. tariffs and their potential impact on global economic growth have been weighing on other markets, but Indian stocks are thriving.

Key Performers in the Market

In this bullish environment, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, two of the most pivotal stocks in the Nifty index, experienced impressive gains of 7.2% and 5.5%, respectively. Both banks reached record highs as investors eagerly await their earnings reports set to be released this weekend.

Insights from Market Experts

Sumeet Bagadia, the Executive Director at Choice Broking, shares an optimistic outlook on the Indian stock market. According to him, the strong sentiment is backed by the Nifty 50’s breakout above the 200-day exponential moving average (DEMA), currently positioned at 23,400. He believes that the benchmark index could reach 24,200 in the near term. However, he cautions that profit-taking might occur in leading banking stocks, as the Nifty Bank index is trading above all DEMA levels.

Recommended Breakout Stocks

For those looking to capitalize on the current momentum, Bagadia offers a list of five stocks to consider:

  • Five-Star Business Finance: Buy at ₹789.8, target ₹845, stop loss ₹760.
  • India Glycols: Buy at ₹1425.5, target ₹1530, stop loss ₹1375.
